With the aim of reducing traffic congestion, the State government is pushing for Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) and completion of the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister for Public Works, said on Saturday.

After launching development works amounting to around Rs. 258 crore to be taken up in 18 Assembly constituencies, he said that the detailed project report for the 364-km STRR is ready. The 30-km section connecting Magadi and Bengaluru is being developed by KSHIP while the 60-km stretch between Hoskote and Hosur is being developed by NHAI.

“We have sought funds from the Surface Transport Ministry to develop the remaining 274 km. Once developed, commuting between Dobbaspet, Devanahalli, Kanakapura, Nelamangala, Magadi and Hoskote will become easy,” he said.

Apart from the projects already launched, the tender process for additional development works worth Rs. 700 crore will be completed by February 25. Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George said funds for all these projects would be sanctioned by the government under Nagarottana Scheme.

Mr. Mahadevappa said the cost of development of 63 km of PRR is less than the cost of acquiring the land required for the project.
